SuperSport Swahili Set to Bring Premier League Action to East African Fans

Football fans in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will soon have another reason to look forward to match days as SuperSport introduces a dedicated Kiswahili sports channel, bringing live football and other sporting action closer to audiences in a language they know and enjoy.

SuperSport Swahili launches on Thursday, November 5, 2026, on DStv channel 216. The 24-hour channel will feature selected live Premier League matches, European football competitions and other sporting events, all with Kiswahili commentary.

The launch is part of MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, expanding its entertainment offering under the DStv Expect More campaign. The channel will be available in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, with GOtv customers in Kenya and Uganda also able to tune in.

For East African football lovers, the move builds on SuperSport’s long-standing Kiswahili commentary coverage of major sporting events, including the Kenyan Premier League, FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations. This time, however, fans will have a dedicated channel with its own presenters, studio programmes and weekly sports content.

What Can Fans Expect on SuperSport Swahili?

Football will take centre stage, with selected live matches from the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

Fans will also get selected FA Cup and Carabao Cup fixtures, international football, including Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as well as athletics events from the Diamond League and marathons.

Beyond football, the channel will feature WWE Raw, SmackDown and UFC content with Kiswahili voiceovers on delayed broadcasts. Popular programmes such as Premier League Stories and The Big Interview will also be available in Kiswahili.

Selected matches will have live studio presentations, giving viewers more than just the action on the pitch.

Meet the Voices Bringing Football Closer to Fans

The new channel will feature familiar regional sports presenters and commentators.

Ahmed Abdallah, Geoffrey Lea and George Embangile will lead the presenting team, while Ibrahim Masoud, Ansibert Mwombeki, Wilson Upete, Edgar Kibwana, Jemedari Kazumari and Aboubakar Liongo will provide commentary.

According to Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Senior Vice-President of Sport Content for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, the channel is part of a wider effort to make sports content more relatable to African audiences.

He noted that localisation goes beyond translating commentary, with the aim of creating a genuine connection with viewers through language and culture.

SuperSport Swahili presenter Ahmed Abdallah also welcomed the launch, describing Kiswahili as the language of football conversations across East Africa.
