SportyTV Lands on DStv and GOtv, Expanding Access to Live Sports Across Africa

SportyTV Lands on DStv and GOtv, Expanding Access to Live Sports Across Africa

Live sports fans across Kenya now have another reason to stay glued to their screens after SportyTV officially joined DStv and GOtv, bringing hundreds of live sporting events to viewers at an affordable price.

The 24-hour sports channel, which launched on DStv Channel 237 and GOtv Channel 58, is expected to deliver around 750 live sporting events annually. The move significantly expands sports access for subscribers on DStv Access and GOtv Value packages.

The addition comes as broadcasters seek to make premium sports content more accessible to African audiences. SportyTV combines live matches, sports news, analysis, highlights and behind-the-scenes content across football, basketball and combat sports.

David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to making quality sports content available to more viewers across the continent.

“SportyTV is a strong addition to the DStv Access and GOtv Value content offering across Africa. It brings exciting sports events to customers at an accessible price point while reinforcing our commitment to making quality sport available to as many fans as possible,” he said.

More Football for African Fans

Football enthusiasts are expected to be among the biggest beneficiaries of the new offering.

The channel will broadcast competitions including the English Premier League, Carabao Cup, EFL Championship, Women’s FA Cup, Spain’s LaLiga, the Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A.

In addition, fans will gain access to content from some of the world’s biggest clubs through Real Madrid TV, Arsenal TV, Chelsea TV and Manchester City TV.

Sporty Group Founder and CEO Sudeep Ramnani said the company’s vision has always been to bring global sports content closer to African audiences.

“Our ambition has always been to provide a truly global sports offering for African fans. We want to combine live action, storytelling and unprecedented access to some of the world’s biggest clubs and competitions,” he said.

“Partnering with CANAL+ allows us to bring that vision to millions more households across Africa.”

Beyond European Football

While European football remains a major attraction, the channel’s content extends well beyond the continent’s biggest leagues.

Viewers will also enjoy coverage of the Copa Libertadores, Argentina’s top-flight league, Brazil’s Serie A, the Greek League and the Saudi Pro League.

Basketball fans have not been left out either, with the NBA forming part of the channel’s growing sports portfolio.

According to CANAL+ Director of Sport Content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, Rendani Ramovha, SportyTV complements rather than replaces existing SuperSport programming.

“The channel gives DStv and GOtv viewers more choice. It broadens the sports offering by adding live events that were previously unavailable on some packages,” he said.

Greater Value for Subscribers

The launch strengthens DStv Access, one of MultiChoice’s most affordable packages, by adding sports content that previously required higher-tier subscriptions.

Subscribers will continue to enjoy access to more than 80 television channels covering entertainment, movies, children’s programming, lifestyle content and news.

Additional channels recently added include WWE and Base Pulse, while Novelas+ is expected to join the platform from July 1.

Sports fans looking for the complete SuperSport experience, including every Premier League match, Formula 1, MotoGP and major rugby competitions, will still require a DStv Premium subscription.

For many viewers, however, the arrival of SportyTV offers a fresh opportunity to enjoy more live sport without stretching their entertainment budgets.

As competition for sports audiences intensifies across Africa, partnerships such as this are helping bring global sporting action closer to millions of fans while expanding viewing options across the continent.
