BAKE Awards Celebrate Kenya’s Growing Creator Economy
Kenya’s digital creator economy took centre stage as the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) crowned the winners of the 10th BAKE Awards, celebrating content creators who are shaping conversations, building businesses, and driving innovation across digital platforms.
The awards gala, held on June 27, brought together creators, technology leaders, corporate partners, and media stakeholders under the theme, The Creator Economy: Turning Content into Capital.
The event highlighted the rapid growth of Kenya’s digital content industry, which recent estimates by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Baraza Media Lab, PwC, and UNESCO value at KSh1.27 trillion (USD9.8 billion). The sector continues to create employment opportunities for thousands of young Kenyans while contributing significantly to the country’s digital economy.

Creator Economy Continues to Expand
BAKE Chairperson Kennedy Kachwanya said the awards reflect the remarkable transformation of Kenya’s creator ecosystem over the past decade.
He noted that content creators have evolved from hobbyists into entrepreneurs, storytellers, and influential voices driving business growth, civic engagement, and innovation.
“Over the past decade, content creators have transformed digital platforms into powerful spaces for entrepreneurship, storytelling, and innovation. The creator economy is creating sustainable income and businesses for thousands of young Kenyans,” he said.
Kachwanya also described this year’s recognition of Simply Apondi as both Creator of the Year and County Creator as evidence that digital talent is flourishing beyond Kenya’s major cities.
“Creativity knows no geographical boundaries. BAKE remains committed to building a stronger and more inclusive creator economy,” he added.
Before the public voting phase, all entries underwent a five-week evaluation process that assessed ethics, originality, consistency, and innovation. An independent panel of experts then selected finalists across 22 award categories.
Corporate Partners Back Digital Talent
Several leading organizations partnered with BAKE to strengthen the creator ecosystem.
Absa Bank Kenya served as the anchor partner and sponsored the Business Creator category, while Visa Kenya backed the Lifestyle and Technology Creator categories. Other partners included Baraza Media Lab, SemaBOX Africa, Kenya Pipeline Company, Equator Outfitters, and AM Communications.
Caroline Wairugu, Senior Communications Manager at Absa Bank Kenya, said creators have become entrepreneurs who contribute to Kenya’s economic growth.
“Behind every viral post and meaningful conversation is a creator shaping how Kenya sees itself. We remain committed to empowering young creatives with opportunities that transform talent into sustainable businesses,” she said.
