Bolt Comfort Rides Grow Sixfold as More Kenyans Opt for Premium Travel
Bolt Comfort is seeing a major jump in demand in Kenya, with monthly ride volumes growing more than sixfold over the past year.
Launched in Kenya in June 2025, the premium ride category has now recorded its highest monthly volume since launch. The number of passengers using Comfort has also increased more than fivefold year-on-year, as more riders look for newer vehicles, extra space and highly rated drivers.
The category is currently available in Nairobi and Mombasa.
A growing appetite for a better ride
The numbers point to a shift in what some passengers expect from ride-hailing. While price remains important, Comfort is aimed at people who are willing to pay for a more consistent vehicle and driver experience.
Despite the rapid growth, the category has maintained an average passenger rating of about 4.9 out of 5 over the past year.
Estimated pickup times have also improved by around 18% year-on-year, helped by the growing number of drivers offering Comfort trips.
Keeping the quality standard
Bolt introduced Comfort with specific requirements covering vehicle condition, appearance and driver performance.
Vehicles are physically inspected using a Bolt checklist through a partnership with a Kenyan automobile inspection provider. Bolt also subsidises part of the inspection cost for qualifying drivers, while vehicles are subject to regular re-inspections.
Drivers offering Comfort rides must maintain a minimum rating of 4.8 and have a strong service record.
According to Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, Rides, East Africa, the growth is not simply about getting more people into cars.
“What this year has shown us is that passengers aren’t just looking for a ride, they’re looking for the right ride for their needs,” Kanyankole said.
She added that maintaining the experience as the category grows has been central to its expansion.
More drivers, shorter waits
The number of drivers offering Comfort rides has nearly tripled since the category launched.
For drivers who meet the vehicle and service requirements, the category provides access to a higher-demand segment of the platform.
The larger driver network is also helping passengers get picked up faster, with more Comfort vehicles available across Nairobi and Mombasa.
From Nairobi to Mombasa
Comfort started in a single Nairobi zone in June 2025 before expanding across the city.
In May 2026, Bolt took the category to Mombasa, marking its first expansion outside Nairobi.
The move suggests that demand for more premium ride-hailing experiences is not limited to the capital, with passengers in other urban centres also showing interest in the category.
As Comfort enters its second year in Kenya, Bolt says it will continue applying the same vehicle and driver standards while expanding the category.
For passengers, the appeal appears fairly simple: a newer, more spacious car, a highly rated driver and, increasingly, less time spent waiting for the ride to arrive.
