CANAL+ Secures Broadcast Rights for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
Sports fans across Sub-Saharan Africa will enjoy live coverage of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after CANAL+ confirmed it has secured the broadcast rights for the global sporting event.
The Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. Coverage will air live on SuperSport and be available to subscribers on DStv, DStv Stream, GOtv and GOtv Stream.
African Athletes Take Centre Stage
More than 500 African athletes are expected to compete across 10 sports and six para sports during the 11-day competition.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, SuperSport will dedicate two channels exclusively to the Commonwealth Games. The broadcaster will also offer a curated feed highlighting Africa’s leading medal contenders. Meanwhile, additional events will air on overflow channels across linear television and streaming platforms.
Furthermore, SuperSport Maximo 2 and 3 will provide dedicated coverage of Mozambican athletes.
Expanding Access to Global Sport

The event will take place across four iconic venues in Glasgow. These include Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus, Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena, and Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Africa’s Medal Hopes
East Africa will once again rely on its strong tradition in middle and long-distance running. Tanzania’s medal hopes rest on athletes including Alphonse Simbu, Gabriel Geay, Jackline Sakilu, Failuna Abdi Matanga and rising star Joseph Panga.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will field one of Africa’s strongest teams. The squad features former world record holder Tobi Amusan, Commonwealth champion Ese Brume, weightlifting stars Rafiatu Lawal and Adijat Olarinoye, and shot put specialist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Ghana will look to its sprint team led by Benjamin Azamati, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Joseph Paul Amoah and Edwin Gadayi. High jumper Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah also strengthens the country’s medal prospects.
In addition, Portuguese-speaking African nations will feature elite boxers Alcinda Panguana, Rady Gramane and Ivanusa Moreira. Cabo Verde’s Jordin Andrade and Angola’s Marcos Santos will also represent the region.
Across Francophone Africa, Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali and Côte d’Ivoire sprint star Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith headline a talented group. Senegal’s Louis François Mendy and Cheikh Diouf, alongside Côte d’Ivoire’s Arthur Cissé, will also compete.
South Africa’s campaign includes swimming legend Chad le Clos, sprint star Akani Simbine, world champion swimmer Pieter Coetzé, javelin thrower Jo-Anè van Dyk and 400-metre runner Lythe Pillay.
Multiple Viewing Options
Subscribers can follow the Games live on SS Variety 3 and SS Variety 4 in Southern Africa. Elsewhere on the continent, coverage will air on SS Africa 1 and SS Africa 2, which will temporarily rebrand as SS Commonwealth 1 and SS Commonwealth 2.
Viewers can also access dedicated coverage through SS Maximo 2 and 3. Additionally, SuperSport.com and SuperSport Blitz will provide live scores, breaking news and event updates throughout the Games.
