Western Kenya’s Young Football Stars Shine in Chapa Dimba
For hundreds of young footballers across Western Kenya, Safaricom Chapa Dimba is more than just a tournament, it’s a stage where dreams begin.
This past weekend, football pitches across Busia, Bungoma and Vihiga came alive with passionate fans, determined players and emotional celebrations as new county champions emerged, earning their place in the regional finals. Beyond the trophies and medals, the tournament once again highlighted the incredible potential of Kenya’s next generation of football talent.
Busia’s Chakol Queens continued their remarkable journey by defending their county title for a second consecutive year after edging Falcon Queens 1-0 in a closely fought final. Their victory is a testament to consistency, teamwork and the growing strength of women’s football at the grassroots level.
In the boys’ category, Musokoto Secondary School delivered a memorable performance to defeat hosts Malaba Homeboys 2-0. Early and late goals from John Onyango and Sanchez Omondi sealed the win, proving that discipline and determination can overcome even the loudest home support.
New Champions, New Dreams
Every edition of Chapa Dimba introduces fresh faces ready to make their mark, and this year’s county finals were no different.
Vihiga Cranes announced themselves in style after knocking out defending regional champions Ebwali Boys to claim the county title. On the girls’ side, Blue Commandos celebrated an unforgettable debut by defeating Maroon Queens 2-0, thanks to a brilliant brace from Victoria Nekesa.
Meanwhile in Bungoma, Elgon Queens held their nerve to lift the girls’ title after a dramatic penalty shootout, while Terem FC showcased composure under pressure to win the boys’ championship from the spot.
For Terem captain Owen Kiprop, the victory meant much more than silverware.
“It has always been my wish to participate in Chapa Dimba. Today, I am happy that I am not only playing but also getting the opportunity to showcase my talent through this platform. We are ready for the regional finals and want to make our supporters proud,” he said.
Where Talent Meets Opportunity
One of the reasons Safaricom Chapa Dimba continues to inspire young people is that it goes beyond football.
Winning teams receive cash prizes that help support their sporting journeys, while standout players are recognized individually for their performances. Even more importantly, the tournament rewards the Most Valuable Players with fully funded tertiary education scholarships through the Safaricom Citizens of the Future Programme.

The competition has become a launchpad for young athletes who dream of playing professionally while also pursuing their education. It also opens the door to international exposure, with top performers earning a chance to join the All-Star team that travels to Sweden for the world-renowned Gothia Cup.
