Dubai Records Surge in African Tourists as Arrivals Hit 897,000
Dubai Strengthens Appeal Among African Travellers

Dubai welcomed 897,000 visitors from Africa in 2025. This figure represents 5% of the city’s total international arrivals.

Targeted marketing campaigns and tailored travel experiences drove this growth. In particular, travellers from Kenya and South Africa increasingly view Dubai as vibrant, safe, and accessible. Authorities also worked closely with tour agents and influencers to address misconceptions about nightlife, dress codes, alcohol regulations, and Ramadan practices.

As a result, African arrivals contributed to a record tourism year for the emirate.

Record-Breaking International Performance

Dubai recorded 19.59 million international visitors in 2025. That marked a 5% year-on-year increase.

Western Europe led with 21% of total arrivals. Meanwhile, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions contributed a combined 26%.

The GCC, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, delivered 2.99 million visitors, accounting for 15%. MENA countries such as Egypt, Morocco, and Jordan added 2.17 million visitors, representing 11%.

Notably, December 2025 set a new monthly record. The city welcomed 2.04 million overnight visitors in a single month for the first time. Major events boosted traffic. The Dubai Shopping Festival attracted global shoppers, while the Dubai Fitness Challenge drew 3 million participants, up from 2.7 million in 2024.

Leadership Credits Strategy and Partnerships

His Excellency Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Visit Dubai), credited strong momentum and collaboration for the milestone.

“With powerful momentum after surpassing two million visitors in a single month for the first time, we remain focused on delivering exceptional guest experiences and strengthening Dubai’s global position,” he said.

He added that record visitation reflects international confidence in Dubai’s long-term strategy. Authorities continue to align tourism growth with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to double the emirate’s economy by 2033.

Moreover, partnerships with more than 3,000 global stakeholders continue to expand Dubai’s destination reach.

Safety, Accessibility and Inclusion Drive Growth

Several structural advantages support Dubai’s tourism growth. In 2025, Numbeo ranked the city among the world’s top 10 safest destinations. The ranking highlighted strong personal safety indicators, including women’s safety at night.

In addition, Dubai became the first Certified Autism Destination in the Eastern Hemisphere. This certification reinforces the city’s focus on accessibility and inclusive travel.

Such credentials continue to appeal to African families and solo travellers seeking secure and welcoming destinations.

Culinary, Lifestyle and Hospitality Expansion

Dubai’s lifestyle offering also strengthens its global brand. Adventure seekers explore Hatta’s outdoor experiences. Meanwhile, visitors enjoy world-class dining and skyline nightlife across the city.

The culinary sector gained further recognition in 2025. Restaurants such as Trèsind Studio and Orfali Bros secured places on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a gastronomy hub.

Hospitality infrastructure continues to expand. By the end of 2025, Dubai offered 154,264 hotel rooms across 827 establishments. Average occupancy reached 80.7%, up from 78.2% in 2024. New landmarks, including Ciel Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, further strengthened capacity.

Infrastructure to Support Future Growth

Looking ahead, African visitors are expected to play an even larger role in Dubai’s tourism mix. The UAE’s Year of the Family in 2026 will promote cultural exchange and shared experiences.

At the same time, major infrastructure projects will improve access. Authorities are expanding Al Maktoum International Airport and constructing the Dubai Metro Blue Line. These developments will enhance connectivity and support sustained tourism growth.

Consequently, Dubai continues to position itself as a leading global hub for business, leisure, and investment.
