Directed by Jaco Bouwer and created by Benjamin Hoffman, Spinners follows Ethan, a 17-year-old from the Cape Flats in South Africa. Struggling to support his younger brother, Ethan finds himself pulled into gang life.
Everything changes when he discovers the adrenaline-fueled world of spinning, South Africa’s unique motorsport culture. The sport offers him more than excitement, it gives him hope, purpose and a chance to rewrite his future.
Beyond its action-packed scenes, Spinners explores powerful themes of family, ambition, resilience and the life-changing decisions young people face.
From Local Hit to International Success
Produced by Federation MEAC and Native At Large, Spinners is a co-production between MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, and CANAL+. The series is distributed internationally by STUDIOCANAL.
Since its debut, Spinners has received widespread acclaim both in Africa and internationally. It became the first African television series selected to compete at the 2023 Canneseries Festival and won three awards at Dakar Series, including Best TV Series. The drama also claimed victory over the Emmy-winning HBO series Succession at the Shanghai TV Festival.
Back home in South Africa, the series received a standing ovation during its sold-out premiere at the Silwerskerm Festival and went on to win multiple South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).
