President William Ruto has said the newly commissioned Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Flyover is part of a broader plan to modernise Nairobi’s transport network and ease traffic congestion across the capital.
Speaking during the commissioning of the project, the President said the flyover marks another milestone in the government’s efforts to improve urban mobility, enhance connectivity, and support economic growth.
He noted that the project is not an isolated investment but forms part of a larger infrastructure transformation currently underway in Nairobi.
Major Road Projects Advance Across the City
Among the key projects highlighted by the President is the Upper Hill–Kenyatta Avenue Viaduct, a KSh 3 billion investment that is now 60 per cent complete.
The viaduct, being constructed around the All-Saints Cathedral area, is expected to significantly improve access into Nairobi’s Central Business District once completed.
According to Ruto, the project will help ease congestion in one of the city’s busiest commercial zones while improving traffic flow for commuters and businesses.
The government has also commenced the upgrading of State House Road through a KSh 1.6 billion investment. The project aims to modernise a critical transport corridor that links key government offices, commercial centres, and residential areas within the city.
Infrastructure Push Targets AFCON Readiness
At the same time, the government is investing KSh 3.9 billion in access roads to Talanta Sports City, one of the flagship facilities expected to support Kenya’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The road works are intended to improve accessibility to the stadium complex while enhancing surrounding infrastructure.
Ruto said the investments are critical as Kenya prepares to host the continental football tournament in 2027 alongside regional partners.
“At the same time, we are building access roads to Talanta Sports City through a Kenya shillings 3.9 billion investment, ensuring that Kenya is ready to host the Africa Cup of Nations next year with infrastructure that is world class and reflects our standing and ambition as a city,” President Ruto said.
