LOOP Safari Gravel Series to Open Third Season in Limuru

The LOOP Safari Gravel Series will launch its third season in Limuru on March 7, 2026. Organisers have lined up four competitive legs across the year. The series will once again take riders to some of Kenya’s most scenic gravel routes.

Limuru will host the season opener for the first time. The area offers rolling hills, tea plantations, and demanding terrain. Organisers expect more than 700 cyclists from across the region. Teams will compete for a top prize of KES 125,000.

This year, the series gives riders a stronger voice. Cyclists will vote for the location of the fourth leg. As a result, the organisers hope to deepen community ownership and engagement.

After Limuru, the second leg will move to Naivasha on June 13, 2026. This race will serve as a UCI-qualifying event. The third leg will take place in Vipingo on August 28, 2026. Finally, the rider-selected fourth leg will conclude the season on October 24, 2026.

In addition, the organisers will host monthly rides with various clubs. These sessions will share practical riding tips and training insights. Top talent from leading teams will support the initiative.

The Limuru leg will feature three race categories. The 100KM Elite Race replaces the previous 120KM distance. The 50KM Recreational Race replaces the former 60KM route. Meanwhile, the 20KM Amateur Race remains unchanged and welcomes first-time riders. Organisers introduced these changes to promote inclusivity while preserving competition.

Each leg will also include a 5KM children’s race. This event aims to nurture grassroots talent and encourage youth participation.

Community Focus and Competitive Edge

The 2025 season delivered strong performances. Ugandan cyclists Jordan Schleck and Mary Aleper defended their 120KM titles at the Vipingo Ridge finale. Schleck has won five of eight races since the series began in 2024. He also claimed the overall title in both 2024 and 2025. He now enters the 2026 season as a top contender.

Eric Muriuki, CEO of LOOP DFS, says the series has surpassed expectations. He notes growth in elite competition and recreational participation. He also highlights stronger community involvement.

According to him, the platform promotes sport, healthy living, and economic activity. He adds that LOOP DFS remains proud to support cycling talent while showcasing Kenya’s landscapes globally.

Troy Barrie, Coordinator of The Amani Project, also welcomes the new season. He explains that Limuru offers fresh terrain and a renewed experience. He adds that the rider-selected final leg shows the organisers listen to the cycling community.

The Amani Project organises the series in partnership with LOOP DFS. Together, they continue to position Kenya as a leading gravel cycling destination.
