SpenoMatic Unveils Solar Interactive Center to Expand Kenya’s Renewable Energy Market

SpenoMatic Group has officially opened its new Solar Interactive Center at Sarit Centre in Nairobi’s Westlands, marking a strategic investment in renewable energy awareness and market expansion in Kenya.

Located on the lower ground floor of one of Nairobi’s busiest retail hubs, the facility positions solar energy within everyday consumer reach. The centre is designed as a practical learning and engagement space where visitors can explore the commercial, environmental, and operational benefits of solar technology within Africa’s green transition.

Speaking during the launch, Nikita Surty of SpenoMatic Home Solutions described the initiative as a decisive step toward mainstreaming solar adoption.

“This is a great opportunity to bring solar energy closer to everyday people,” she said.

“Solar power is no longer just a technical concept – it is a practical, affordable, and impactful solution for homes, businesses, and communities. With this centre, we want to demystify solar energy, demonstrate its real-life benefits, and inspire more Kenyans to participate in the green energy transition.”

A Strategic Investment in Public Engagement

The Solar Interactive Center is open to the public including students, young professionals, families, entrepreneurs, and senior citizens. Through hands-on demonstrations, technical displays, and expert advisory support, visitors gain insight into how solar systems function in real-world Kenyan conditions.

The facility provides practical education on cost optimisation, energy independence, and carbon reduction. By translating technical engineering concepts into accessible demonstrations, SpenoMatic is effectively lowering informational barriers that often delay renewable energy adoption.

Surty noted that Africa possesses some of the highest solar potential globally, yet remains underutilised in terms of installed capacity.

“This center allows visitors to see, touch, and understand how solar systems can transform lives from lowering energy costs to improving energy security and protecting the environment for future generations,” she added.

Aligning with Kenya’s Renewable Energy Agenda

Africa stands at a pivotal stage in its energy transition. Rapid urbanisation, industrial growth, and rising electricity demand require scalable and sustainable solutions. Solar energy is increasingly recognised as a cornerstone of clean, decentralised, and affordable power.

Kenya, widely regarded as a regional renewable energy leader, continues to pursue ambitious climate and energy targets aimed at reducing carbon emissions, strengthening resilience, and expanding clean energy access.

Solar complements existing investments in geothermal, wind, and hydropower, particularly for households and small and medium-sized enterprises seeking cost-efficient energy alternatives.

The Solar Interactive Center directly supports these national objectives by enhancing public literacy around renewable energy technologies and facilitating informed investment decisions. Its placement within a high-traffic commercial environment reinforces solar as both a practical and commercially viable solution.

In 2017, the business consolidated under Spenomatic Group to integrate specialised verticals into comprehensive utility solutions for industry.

Through Spenomatic Home Solar Solutions, the Group continues to strengthen its footprint in Kenya’s fast-growing residential and small business solar market. With a team of over 210 professionals, the organisation positions quality, sustainability, and client-centred delivery at the core of its operational strategy.

The launch of the Solar Interactive Center signals a broader commercial ambition: accelerating solar adoption by combining technical expertise, public engagement, and market visibility.

As Kenya advances its clean energy agenda, initiatives such as this underscore the role of private sector leadership in shaping a resilient and sustainable energy economy.

Untold Stories of the 2026 KCB Safari Rally Team

Untold Stories of the 2026 KCB Safari Rally Team
Beyond the Helmet

Before the engines ignite and dust swirls into the morning light of the Great Rift Valley, a hush settles over Naivasha. For a fleeting moment, Africa’s toughest rally pauses before it begins.

Five crews. Ten lives shaped by grit, craft, precision, and unrelenting desire pull on their helmets. In that second, everything the world thinks it knows disappears behind the visor. What remains is the truth of who they are and why they race.

The 2026 WRC Safari Rally Kenya is more than a contest of speed. Instead, it brings together radically different lives: an aircraft engineer, a security entrepreneur, a paraplegic champion, a coffee farmer, a mother-daughter team, an industrialist, an electrical engineer, and a fashion merchandiser.

Although their worlds differ sharply, they converge here for one reason the need to test themselves against one of motorsport’s most unforgiving landscapes.

This is the story of the five KCB-supported crews preparing to face Africa’s most brutal rally.

These are stories beyond the helmet.

THE COMEBACK KINGS
Precision Under Pressure
Karan Patel & Tauseef Khan  Kenya
Aircraft Engineer & Security Entrepreneur

Precision is not a buzzword for Karan Patel; it is the air he breathes. During the week, he works as an aircraft engineer, obsessing over tolerances and load factors where error is unacceptable. On rally weekends, however, he transforms into a two-time African Rally Champion whose speed electrifies spectators.

Both aviation and rallying demand control. Consequently, every stage note from co-driver Tauseef Khan is treated like a flight checklist interpreted, executed, and trusted.

Karan’s relationship with machines began early. His father, a former Kenya Airways pilot and instructor, immersed him in flight discipline long before he touched a rally car. That foundation still shapes his driving philosophy today.

A Season That Nearly Broke Them

Their partnership formed unexpectedly after Tauseef’s father suggested they team up. What followed was one of Africa’s fastest pairings.

Then 2025 tested everything.

First, a suffocating cloud of fesh-fesh destroyed their engine mid-event at the Safari Rally. Later that season, a violent crash in Rwanda ended their hopes of a historic three-peat ARC title. At that point, the campaign could have collapsed entirely.

Instead, they regrouped.

They returned for the final round in Tanzania determined to influence the championship’s outcome. Although they could not reclaim the title, they won the leg and shaped where the trophy landed. Even in defeat, they defined the season.

Now, in 2026, they return with unfinished business.

THE ARCHITECT OF THE IMPOSSIBLE
Rebuilding After Impact
Nikhil Sachania & Deep Patel Kenya

Project Manager & Automotive Executive

If Karan represents precision, Nikhil Sachania embodies possibility.

By profession, he manages complex construction projects across East Africa. Yet his most extraordinary build has been his own comeback.

Nikhil is Africa’s only paraplegic rally driver.

After a life-altering quad bike accident, he spent six months in rehabilitation. However, instead of surrendering to loss, he studied hand-control systems and drew inspiration from disabled racing pioneer Albert Lovera. Once back home, he returned to karting. The adrenaline confirmed what he already knew he was not done.

Engineering a Return

His career progressed through several cars before settling into a fully adapted Ford Fiesta Rally3. The vehicle operates entirely on hand controls, including a sequential gearbox. As a result, flawless coordination between driver and co-driver becomes critical.

Deep Patel plays that role.

In corporate life, Deep leads distribution for a global automotive aftermarket brand. Meanwhile, he manages coffee farms and livestock operations. Rallying, therefore, becomes both escape and obsession.

Their bond strengthened through adversity. During the WRC Safari Rally in Kedong, the car crested at 170 km/h and lost control. Eight rotations later, the wreck lay destroyed. Deep fractured his tailbone. Nikhil required air evacuation.

Nevertheless, they rebuilt.

In 2025, despite missing two ARC rounds, early-season points secured them the FIA Africa Rally Championship WRC3 title. Nikhil became the only paraplegic driver to win a WRC category event at the Safari Rally.

For 2026, their objective is clear: a full season and a serious challenge for the overall ARC crown.

THE FAMILY THAT RACES TOGETHER
A System Built on Trust
Tinashe & Caroline Gatimu  Kenya

Engineering Student & Motorsport Veteran

Motorsport is not a hobby for the Gatimu family; it is a shared mission.

Each January, they gather to map out the rally calendar. One daughter books accommodation. Their father handles logistics and car preparation. Caroline manages provisioning. Tinashe oversees gear and race essentials. Over 15 years, they have refined this system.

Today, Tinashe balances rallying with Electrical and Electronics Engineering studies at Strathmore University. Her academic path reflects intention. If she pushes machines to their limits, she wants to understand them entirely.

Inside the cockpit, roles sharpen.

Tinashe drives.
Caroline navigates.

The mother-daughter bond remains outside the doors. Instead, professionalism governs every stage.

A Dream Backed by Belief

The Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally tested them with unexpected speed and smooth roads. Still, adaptation became their strength.

For 2026, they debut a more powerful Ford Fiesta. With greater performance comes greater responsibility.

Tinashe’s approach remains measured: finish, learn, return stronger. Ultimately, she aims for the African Rally Championship and eventually the WRC.

After years of self-funding, KCB’s sponsorship changed everything. Caroline describes it simply: “an answered prayer.”

THE INDUSTRIALISTS
Discipline Over Aggression
Oscar Ntambi & Athuman Muhammad — Uganda

Industrialist & Electrical Engineer

Oscar Ntambi built his life around fabrication and machinery. Rallying, therefore, felt like a natural extension of his craft.

His Mitsubishi Evo X unlocked a new level of performance. However, the Safari Rally quickly reminds every driver that power alone is insufficient. Deep sand, jagged rocks, and unpredictable surfaces demand restraint.

That restraint comes from co-driver Athuman Muhammad.

Athuman leads a mechanical crew at Aston Auto Garage. For him, pace notes are not suggestions; they are survival tools. Years earlier, when a snapped propeller shaft threatened a championship campaign, he gathered the team and made a promise: they would win the final two rounds.

They did.

Consequently, Oscar trusts his navigator’s calm judgment, especially when aggression tempts him to push harder than conditions allow.

THE FASHION POWERHOUSE
Style Meets Speed
Queen Kalimpinya & Olivier Ngabo  Rwanda

Fashion Merchandiser & Professional Mechanic

For Queen Kalimpinya, rallying complements her career in fashion rather than contradicting it. Managing garment supply chains requires sequencing, precision, and composure — qualities equally vital in motorsport.

As Rwanda’s only female rally driver, she once viewed the Safari Rally as distant and unattainable. However, after attending in 2025, ambition crystallised. When KCB offered sponsorship, the dream accelerated into reality.

Her mindset remains pragmatic: the stopwatch recognises performance, not gender.

Olivier Ngabo, a professional mechanic, anchors her with steady navigation. When a fuel pipe malfunction nearly ended their run, his calm instructions guided them safely through.

To young women watching, Queen offers a clear message: commit fully, and possibility expands.

A LEGACY BEYOND SPONSORSHIP

KCB’s involvement transcends branding. For 2026, the bank has committed KShs. 227 million, including direct crew support and event funding. Since 2021, total investment approaches KShs. 980 million.

Importantly, the support feels personal to the crews. Engines rebuilt. Crashes recovered. Campaigns revived.

Beyond competition, KCB integrates environmental stewardship, planting 5,000 trees and engaging schools in sustainability debates. Thus, the roar of engines aligns with responsibility.

THE 2026 ROUTE

How Absa Bank is building generational wealth for Kenyan athletes

How Absa Bank is building generational wealth for Kenyan athletes

Thousands streamed into Lobo Village, Kapsaret on Saturday for the fifth edition of the Absa Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Tournament, eager to witness Kenya’s athletic champions defend their titles and upcoming stars showcase their talent.

Agnes Ng’etich, the World Athletics Cross Country Championship winner, and John Korir claimed victory in the senior 10KM race, finishing in 32:28 and 29:44 respectively, each taking home a gold medal reward of Ksh. 770,000. This prize money represents a financial boost that when managed well, can create generational wealth and sustain families.

Yet many athletes have struggled to maintain a long-term, financially sustainable career after major championship victories. Achieving a sustainable career demands strategic investments, sound financial advice, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to continuous financial education.

With this in mind, Absa Bank Kenya hosted a financial literacy workshop for 60 athletes ahead of the tournament. The workshop was designed to help athletes translate their championship earnings into lasting financial stability.

Additionally, the bank also conducted a tree planting exercise at the sports complex as part of its continued efforts to support environmental sustainability efforts.

Among those in attendance were Lagos Marathon Champion Edwin Koech, 2023 Nairobi City Marathon Champion Robert Kiplimo Kipkemboi, and Nanjing Marathon Champion Boaz Kipkemei.

Charles Wokabi, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Absa Kenya, mentioned that the bank’s investment in sport goes far beyond handing out financial rewards.

“Many athletes earn significant prize money at a young age, but without proper planning, those earnings can vanish,” he said.

“Financial literacy gives athletes control. It helps them make smart decisions, protect their earnings, and build a stable future.”

Wokabi also acknowledged the reality that athletic careers are often short, underscoring the importance of early financial planning.

Financial literacy equips athletes to manage their winnings responsibly, navigate the pressures that come with sudden wealth, and ultimately build a foundation for early retirement. The workshops also benefit upcoming athletes, giving them a headstart in understanding financial management before the big financial rewards arrive.

Beyond financial literacy, the bank also advocates for education especially among young upcoming athletes whose careers are still taking shape.

The bank emphasises the importance of academic success and continuity as a parallel pathway to personal growth and long-term security. This ensures they are equipped not only to compete at the highest level, but also to transition seamlessly into new opportunities when the time comes.

How Absa Bank is building generational wealth for Kenyan athletes
How Absa Bank is building generational wealth for Kenyan athletes

“We see the stories of these athletes, and we are committed to helping them thrive both on and off the track and ensuring that the money they earn supports them for life. We have a long-term commitment to support them even outside the competitions by ensuring that they have a pathway to other opportunities outside the sporting activities,” said Absa Bank Kenya Corporate and Investment Banking Managing Executive James Agin.

Additionally, these athletes are taken through nutrition and wellness programmes to support their physical and mental preparedness ahead of major competitions. These sessions are facilitated by qualified experts and coaches who provide guidance on how they can build resilience and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

These interventions also extend to the families of these athletes because when you strengthen the support system around a sportsperson, you strengthen their chances of long-term success.

Family members are engaged in conversations about accessing financial support, from business capital and savings options to structured financing options. This helps create a holistic support ecosystem for these athletes and helps alleviate financial burdens over their shoulders.

Absa Bank is also passionate about environmental sustainability, driving initiatives that seek to conserve the environment. Through the Absa Kenya Foundation, the bank donated a 10,000-litre water tank and conducted a tree-planting session in Lobo Village at Jasho Primary School, giving learners a conducive learning environment.

The prizes of the competition may make headlines during the competition, however the true impact of the Absa Sirikwa Classic extends beyond the medals podium, setting athletes on a journey toward financial knowledge, long-term stability, and a secure financial legacy that supports future generations.

A Campaign Co-Created with Gen Z

This year, Sprite is partnering with a new generation of creators and digital platforms. Through these collaborations, the brand will unlock exclusive content and immersive promotions. In turn, refreshment becomes a participatory cultural experience.

Juliana Kituma, Director of Frontline Marketing at The Coca-Cola Company Kenya, says the brand is deepening its presence in youth spaces. According to her, the campaign focuses on music, basketball, campus culture, and digital platforms. Ultimately, it gives young people space to express themselves and connect with what they love.

Refreshment Meets Cultural Expression

With ‘It’s That Fresh,’ Sprite goes beyond product promotion. Instead, the brand builds platforms for expression across music, sport, and digital creativity.

As the campaign rolls out nationwide, it aims to amplify the voices shaping Kenya’s youth culture. In doing so, Sprite positions itself not just as a drink, but as a catalyst for fresh experiences.

Safety, Accessibility and Inclusion Drive Growth

Several structural advantages support Dubai’s tourism growth. In 2025, Numbeo ranked the city among the world’s top 10 safest destinations. The ranking highlighted strong personal safety indicators, including women’s safety at night.

In addition, Dubai became the first Certified Autism Destination in the Eastern Hemisphere. This certification reinforces the city’s focus on accessibility and inclusive travel.

Such credentials continue to appeal to African families and solo travellers seeking secure and welcoming destinations.

Culinary, Lifestyle and Hospitality Expansion

Dubai’s lifestyle offering also strengthens its global brand. Adventure seekers explore Hatta’s outdoor experiences. Meanwhile, visitors enjoy world-class dining and skyline nightlife across the city.

The culinary sector gained further recognition in 2025. Restaurants such as Trèsind Studio and Orfali Bros secured places on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a gastronomy hub.

Hospitality infrastructure continues to expand. By the end of 2025, Dubai offered 154,264 hotel rooms across 827 establishments. Average occupancy reached 80.7%, up from 78.2% in 2024. New landmarks, including Ciel Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, further strengthened capacity.

Infrastructure to Support Future Growth

Looking ahead, African visitors are expected to play an even larger role in Dubai’s tourism mix. The UAE’s Year of the Family in 2026 will promote cultural exchange and shared experiences.

At the same time, major infrastructure projects will improve access. Authorities are expanding Al Maktoum International Airport and constructing the Dubai Metro Blue Line. These developments will enhance connectivity and support sustained tourism growth.

Consequently, Dubai continues to position itself as a leading global hub for business, leisure, and investment.

Laugh, Cry and Conquer: How a Girl Squad Keeps You Sane

Laugh, Cry and Conquer: How a Girl Squad Keeps You Sane
Picture this: a sun-drenched afternoon, the gentle clinking of glasses, the warm hum of laughter filling the air. For many, this conjures the image of Galentine’s a vibrant, often mimosa-fueled celebration of female friendship.
That’s Galentine’s, right? A day we carve out to raise a glass to our favorite people. But let’s be honest, the profound importance of these friendships goes far beyond one mimosa-fueled brunch.
Female friendships, in their truest essence, are far more than just social gatherings. They are the essential, often invisible, infrastructure for our mental health, our emotional resilience, and our radical joy in a world that constantly demands more.
This unique space, forged in trust and empathy, is where women can truly be their unfiltered selves. It’s where the masks drop, societal expectations dissipate, and vulnerability isn’t just permitted; it’s celebrated.
Here, shared secrets become shared strength, and a knowing glance can communicate volumes that words never could.
Laugh, Cry and Conquer: How a Girl Squad Keeps You Sane
Laugh, Cry and Conquer: How a Girl Squad Keeps You Sane
Navigating the currents of modern life often feels like an unending marathon. The relentless pursuit of career goals, the invisible weight of the mental load, these pressures can leave us feeling stretched, depleted, and utterly alone. In this high-stakes environment, a circle of friends isn’t merely a pleasant diversion; it’s a vital lifeline.
It’s in these circles that resilience is quietly and fiercely built. When one of you stumbles, bruised by a setback or overwhelmed by exhaustion, it’s the collective spirit of your squad that rallies around you.
It’s the late-night call, the impromptu coffee, the shared silence of understanding, the roar of collective laughter that cleans the soul.
These are the Real Moments that mend spirits, recalibrate perspectives, and remind us that we are never truly alone in our struggles or our triumphs.
Your friendships also protect something crucial: your sense of self. In a landscape that constantly demands you be more, do more, have it all, your friends are the ones who remind you that you’re enough. You’re allowed to be human.
You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to change your mind. That constant, gentle affirmation is not weakness; it’s survival.
And the beauty? You don’t need a grand plan or a fancy venue. These powerful connections can happen anywhere: in living rooms, over a coffee date, or on a nature walk.
What matters is the intention: choosing connection on purpose, making time for the people who truly fill your cup.
For those occasions, the drink should always enhance the moment, not overshadow it. At Gilbey’s, we understand that these Real Moments of Connection are the true currency of life.
We believe that every meaningful conversation, every heartfelt confession, every burst of joy deserves a setting that allows it to flourish. It’s why we see Gilbey’s not just as a spirit, but as an invitation, a quiet companion to the beautiful ritual of reconnection.
Laugh, Cry and Conquer: How a Girl Squad Keeps You Sane

Sixth Consecutive Year of Sponsorship

KCB Bank Kenya has committed KShs. 227 million to the 2026 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally Kenya. This marks the sixth consecutive year the bank has sponsored the event since its return in 2021.

Of the total amount, KShs. 100 million will support the Safari Rally directly. In addition, KShs. 28.5 million will sponsor five drivers: Karan Patel, Nikhil Sachania, Tinashe Gatimu, Queen Kalimpinya of Rwanda, and Uganda’s Oscar Ntambi. The bank will allocate the remaining funds to activations and marketing.

Since 2021, KCB has invested a total of KShs. 980 million in the global event.

Driving Economic and Sporting Impact

While presenting the sponsorship cheque to Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to sports development.

“Our sponsorship reflects our focus on sustainable impact, local talent development, and economic growth across tourism, trade, and enterprise,” said Russo.

He added that the bank will continue leveraging its sports sponsorship platform across East Africa to nurture talent at global, regional, and local levels.

Over the past two decades, KCB has invested more than KShs. 5 billion in sports. The funding has supported motorsports, rugby, chess, volleyball, football, golf, and athletics.

Specifically, the bank has injected over KShs. 2 billion into motorsports. As a result, many local drivers have competed in regional and international events.

Rally Route and Schedule

The 2026 Safari Rally will feature 350.02 kilometres of competitive stages. It will also include 842.9 kilometres of liaison sections, in line with FIA requirements.

Organisers will base the four-day event in Naivasha. This format aligns with FIA 2026 sporting regulations on distance and crew working hours.

On Thursday, March 12, drivers will tackle a shakedown at the new Nawisa stage. They will then proceed to Camp Moran and Mzabibu.

On Friday, March 13, crews will navigate Camp Moran, Loldia, Geothermal, and Kedong stages.

On Saturday, March 14, the rally moves to Soysambu, Elementaita, and Sleeping Warrior. An autograph session will follow at Mzabibu.

Finally, on Sunday, March 15, drivers will race through Oserengoni and Hell’s Gate before concluding at the Wolf Power Stage. Officials will then hold the prize-giving ceremony.

Sustainability and Youth Engagement

KCB will place sustainability at the centre of this year’s rally. The bank targets planting and nurturing 5,000 trees. This effort supports the government’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

Additionally, KCB will engage more than 60 high schools in a green debate series. The initiative aims to inspire environmental awareness among young people.

PS Mwangi praised the bank’s continued backing of the rally.

“KCB’s sustained investment has strengthened local talent and attracted global attention. The partnership continues to unlock opportunities for communities along the rally route,” he said.

Safari Rally Kenya CEO Charles Gacheru also welcomed the sponsorship.

“The Safari Rally continues to grow as a global spectacle. We are proud to showcase Kenya on the international motorsport stage,” he said.

Global Competitors Confirmed

This year, organisers expect 50 local and international teams. Top manufacturers, including Toyota, Hyundai, Škoda, and M-Sport Ford, have confirmed participation.

The entry list features leading drivers such as Sebastien Ogier, Thierry Neuville, defending champion Elfyn Evans, and Grégoire Munster.

As the third round of the WRC season, the Safari Rally remains one of the toughest events on the calendar. It combines unpredictable weather, rugged terrain, and 20 special stages across four intense days.
