KURA Announces Four-Month Closure of Section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has announced the temporary closure of a section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi to allow for the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River.

In a public notice issued by the authority, the closure will take effect from 6 AM on Monday, 18th May 2026 and remain in place until 6 PM on Friday, 18th September 2026. The project period is expected to last four months.

Road Closure to Facilitate Bridge Construction
According to the notice, the road closure is intended to facilitate construction works being undertaken by the contractor at the Nairobi River crossing section.

Motorists using the affected route have been advised to use alternative roads as indicated by KURA

KURA further urged road users to follow directions issued by traffic police officers who will be deployed within the affected areas during the construction period.

Alternative Routes and Traffic Flow Measures
Alternative traffic flow arrangements have also been outlined in the notice.

A temporary pedestrian bridge will also be put in place to maintain movement across the river during the works.

The notice identifies sections that will remain operational for traffic flow, while clearly marking the working area and blocked road segments near the bridge construction point.

KURA Apologises for Expected Inconvenience
KURA apologised for the inconvenience that may be experienced during the closure period, stating that the works are necessary as part of ongoing urban transport improvements.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to Transform Urban Mobility,” the notice reads.

The project is expected to affect daily traffic movement along the Eldoret Road corridor, with motorists likely to experience diversions and delays during peak hours over the four-month construction window.

The public has been urged to cooperate with traffic management teams and observe all guidance issued throughout the duration of the project to ensure safety and smooth movement around the affected area.
