Kenya Cane Empowers Suvirio Women’s Group with New Poultry Initiative
Kenya Cane, widely known as “The True Kenyan Spirit,” has once again reinforced its commitment to grassroots empowerment. Recently, the brand handed over a fully constructed chicken coop and 100 chickens to the Suvirio Women’s Self-Help Group in Voi.
This women-led collective works tirelessly to build sustainable livelihoods despite the socio-economic and climate challenges facing the Coastal region.
A Legacy of Resilience and Unity
The Suvirio Women’s Self-Help Group first formed in 2013 to bring together widows in Mwatete, Taita, who sought to support one another through income-generating initiatives.
Initially, the group focused on cassava farming and value addition; however, they eventually transitioned to poultry farming. This strategic shift provided a more reliable and scalable venture, which now enables members to earn a steady income by selling chickens and eggs.
Beyond farming, the group has achieved remarkable milestones through collective effort. For instance, they have already constructed 18 houses for their most vulnerable members, thereby restoring dignity and safety to many families.
Additionally, their table banking system helps members educate their children, with several students now progressing to university and formal employment.

Strengthening Impact through Partnership
Consequently, the new support from Kenya Cane will significantly boost the group’s production capacity. By providing better infrastructure and more livestock, this partnership accelerates the group’s long-term goals of expanding housing and acquiring an egg-hatching machine.
During the handover ceremony, Victor Adada, Brand Manager for Kenya Cane, emphasized that the brand seeks to tell stories reflecting real Kenyan progress.
He noted that the “True Kenyan Spirit” lives within communities like Suvirio, where women choose unity and self-determination despite the odds. Furthermore, he explained that progressive brand storytelling must reflect purpose and create real impact at the grassroots level.
A Future Built on Hope and Sustainability
In response to the donation, Catherine Mwazighe, Chairlady of the Suvirio Women’s Self-Help Group, expressed her gratitude for the initiative. She noted that the additional chickens and housing will allow the group to become more sustainable and support their families more consistently.
Ultimately, she thanked Kenya Cane for believing in the vision that these women have built together.
As a result of this initiative, Kenya Cane continues to champion community-led progress. By celebrating everyday Kenyans whose resilience embodies the national spirit, the brand ensures that its legacy remains intertwined with the success of the people it serves.
