Kerry and Concern Worldwide Drive Sustainable Nutrition in Kenya
On World Food Day, a global day of action against hunger, Kerry and Concern Worldwide celebrated the local impact of their collaborative ALIVE programme in Kenya.
The initiative empowers smallholder farmers in Tana River County to improve food security, boost nutrition, and build resilience against climate change. This aligns with the global mission to create sustainable food systems for all.

Empowering Farmers and Families
Many rural Kenyan communities rely on small-scale farming. However, they face persistent challenges such as erratic weather, poor access to resources, and unstable markets.
These hurdles affect food supply and nutrition, especially for women and children. Therefore, addressing them is key to achieving World Food Day’s mission.
The four-year ALIVE programme tackles these issues through climate-smart agriculture. It trains farmers on sustainable practices, improves access to quality seeds and inputs, and connects them to reliable markets.
As a result, it aims to enhance food and nutrition security for over 6,000 people, with a special focus on empowering women who drive household and community well-being.
Building Resilience through Partnership
“We are committed to improving the lives of farmers and their families in Tana River by removing the barriers they face,” said Fawzia Jamal, Marketing Director, Kerry Africa.
“Through climate-smart solutions and better nutrition support, we can create lasting value for those most affected by food insecurity. This World Food Day reminds us that our mission of sustainable nutrition is achieved through local action. We are proud to partner with Concern Worldwide to make Zero Hunger a reality in Kenya.”
The collaboration brings together Kerry’s expertise in sustainable nutrition and Concern Worldwide’s on-the-ground experience in community development. Together, they have built a holistic programme that addresses both environmental and social challenges faced by smallholder farmers.

Local Impact with Global Potential
“This programme is already transforming lives in Tana River,” said Alex Ogeto, Country Program Manager at Concern Worldwide.
“By offering training, access to finance and markets, and nutrition education, we are witnessing a direct, positive impact on farming families. With scaling, this initiative could empower many more communities and help feed millions across Kenya.”
The ALIVE programme reflects the true spirit of World Food Day, investing in local solutions to solve global problems.
By equipping smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of Kenya’s food system, the initiative contributes to a more resilient, sustainable, and food-secure future for all.
